  1. On Wednesday, Microsoft released the first build in its Windows Insider program for its new Canary channel. It included a number of new features that may or may not be added to Windows 11. However, if a new Canary build doesn't come with new features, Microsoft has said it won't get a dedicated Windows Insider blog post like the ones for the Beta and Dev channels. However, that doesn't mean Canary channel Windows Insiders will be completely in the dark when a new build rolls out. The official Windows Insider Twitter feed has confirmed, "We will still tweet when releasing new builds!" This is obviously good news for Canary channel subscribers who will likely get more build releases per week compared to the ones on the Beta and Dev channels. Microsoft says that those released won't be made on a daily basis, but new builds will still come at a more rapid pace. Microsoft has also warned Canary users that the new builds "could include major issues that could result in not being able to use your PC correctly or even in some rare cases require you to reinstall Windows." So the fact that all Canary builds will get at least a heads up via Twitter cannot help but be a good thing. All new Windows Insider Canary builds will still be announced on Twitter
  2. The latest Windows 11 Canary build adds a little order to the chaotic Windows Widgets space, where Microsoft mixes useful widgets with not-so-useful news (The meaning of your dreams: Read these surprising interpretations! and more). Build 25324 features a larger 3-column canvas with dedicated sections for widgets and the feed. The updated widgets experience is not available to all insiders—it is yet another feature with a gradual rollout that helps Microsoft to monitor feedback before pushing it to a broader audience. However, you can force-enable it using the ViVeTool app (via @thebookisclosded on Twitter). Caution: Back up important data before using the ViVeTool app. It can break things and make unstable Windows builds even more buggy! How to enable the updated Windows Widgets in build 25324? Launch Microsoft Store and update Windows Web Experience Pack to version 523.8200 or newer. Download ViveTool from GitHub and unpack the files in a convenient and easy-to-find folder. Press Win + X and select Terminal (Admin). Switch Windows Terminal to the Command Prompt profile with the Ctrl + Shift + 2 shortcut or by clicking the arrow-down button at the top of the window. Navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files with the CD command. For example, if you have placed ViveTool in C:\Vive, type CD C:\Vive. Type vivetool /enable /id:43028164 and press Enter. Restart your computer. Microsoft says the updated widgets will help users quickly access glanceable content from their favorite apps and services. Also, it enables users to "take a high-value break with personalized news content," which is a somewhat questionable statement considering what Microsoft promotes in the feed. Also, giving news two columns and only one to widgets says much about what Microsoft considers more important. In addition to the redesigned layout, Microsoft is experimenting with animated widget icons and the ability to move widgets to the right on the taskbar. Do you like the redesigned Widgets Board? Let us know in the comments. Microsoft tests redesigned and better-organized Windows Widgets, here is how to enable them
  3. Microsoft has confirmed that the newest Windows Canary build has a hard time shutting down in specific scenarios. According to Jen Gentleman (via @XenoPanther on Twitter), a member of the Windows engineering team at Microsoft, build 25314 and 25324 can hang when the user attempts to turn off the system with an Xbox Wireless Controller paired via a USB cable. The message from Jen was published in the Feedback Hub (clicking the link will launch the Feedback Hub if installed) under a report about the shutdown not working after upgrading to builds 25314 and 25324. Interestingly, the same bug causes green screens of death for some insiders when their PCs are asleep. Thanks for taking the time to report this - we're investigating an issue where if you have a wired Xbox controller connected then shutdown will hang. This is the same root cause as some insiders seeing bugchecks (or rather green screens) when the PC is asleep. We're working on a fix. If your computer is affected by the bug, try disconnecting your controller before turning off the PC. As a reminder, keep in mind that Canary builds may be highly unstable since Microsoft is using the Channel to trial early long-term platform changes. Switching to Dev, Beta, or Release Preview may be a more reliable option, with the ability to test feature updates before Microsoft pushes them to the general public. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to go "down" from Canary to more stable builds, so reinstalling the operating system is your only option. For that reason, Microsoft started offering Windows Insiders free USB thumb drives. Microsoft confirms Xbox controllers can break shutdown in Windows 11 Canary builds
  4. Microsoft Edge Dev and Canary builds get a new Share menu with an 'Email to myself' feature Microsoft today announced that it is rolling out a new share menu for users running Canary and Dev builds of Microsoft Edge on the desktop, bringing a design that is akin to what is present on mobile apps. The new Share menu replaces the default. Windows and macOS share option, providing users with quick share targets in the way of app icons and a nifty way to add one’s email address to share webpages with themselves. The native share menu, however, can be accessed by clicking on the “share options” icon. Currently, the new menu supports a small list of apps that include Outlook, Gmail, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp – which is more than the existing options in the stable version. The firm says that it will be adding support for more apps in the coming weeks. Tapping on any of the app options opens those services in a new tab with the requisite information. There is also the option to copy a link to the webpage, similar to the option present in the native flyout on Windows. The other interesting and useful option being added especially for those who like to email themselves webpage links is the ‘Email to myself’ feature. Users can save their own email addresses and quickly share links to those addresses right from the browser. Clicking on the saved IDs automatically populates an email with the webpage title in the subject line and the URL in the body. This feature might prove useful for those who do not enable tab or history syncing on their mobile devices or use a different browser on their phones. Since the feature is just beginning to roll out to Dev and Canary channel builds, not all users will receive it right away. The Redmond firm says that it will be adding a separate flag to Edge Canary in the next few days to force-enable the feature. Microsoft Edge Dev and Canary builds get a new Share menu with an 'Email to myself' feature
  5. The Microsoft Edge browser is getting a new Share sheet Microsoft is testing a new Share sheet in the latest Edge Canary builds. The new Share Sheet replaces the native Windows 10 share sheet, though this is still accessible via a link. The new sheet behaves like other Edge menu pop-ups and includes specific links to social networks, and also allows you to email links to yourself. When you want to invoke the native Windows 10 Share sheet, you can click on the Windows Share Options button. The new sheet does not appear to be available to everyone yet, but will presumable come to dev builds in a few weeks if it passes its tests. 6. Microsoft is testing Edge auto-fill for custom fields The auto-completion of passwords and payment details has to a large degree enabled the e-commerce revolution, and today we can report that Microsoft is looking to expand that capability to more areas. In the latest Edge Canary builds, Microsoft is offering users to save and edit details for custom fields such as passport or account numbers, so you would only ever have to enter them once. Users would be able to specify if the number is sensitive (e.g. payment details) in which case Edge would as you to authenticate first before filling in the details. The feature is currently being tested in insider versions via a controlled roll-out. via Leo Varela Microsoft is testing Edge auto-fill for custom fields
  7. Earlier this year, Microsoft revamped the Extensions menu in Edge by bringing a dedicated flyout in the toolbar, letting users move extensions’ icons from the toolbar in this flyout. The behavior was similar to the new History, Downloads, and Collections menus that also received a flyout UI. However, one of the drawbacks of the UI was that it brought an all-or-nothing paradigm. Removing the Extensions button placed all the extensions in the toolbar, crowding the toolbar, which was not an ideal solution. That now seems to be changing, as the latest Edge Canary update adds the ability to hide the Extensions toolbar and the extensions icons completely without spewing all the icons out of the menu right into the toolbar. The update, spotted by Reddit user and Edge-watcher Leopeva64-2, also brings a best of both worlds option where it allows users to display the Extensions button automatically when extensions are turned on, helping declutter the increasingly busy toolbar. As seen in the screenshots at the top, users can simply right-click on the Extensions button and select the “hide from toolbar” option without affecting the pinned icons or completely remove all icons. Currently, another option to hide the button sits within the ellipsis menu inside the flyout and it is not clear if that option is slated to be removed. Additional options for the button can be spotted in the Appearance settings, which contains the “Show Automatically” feature. Since this is a minor addition, it might quickly make it to the Dev and Beta channels, before finally being released to the stable channel. With Edge releases now following a condensed release timeline, the wait for newer features to propagate from Canary to other channels is shorter than ever before. The addition of this option is indeed a welcome one for those that have been asking for the ability to choose to hide the button completely, especially for those who have select extensions and do not need the button on their toolbars. You can now hide all extensions and the Extensions button from the toolbar in Edge Canary
  8. Microsoft is making it easier to save a web page in Edge as a PDF. The feature, which is currently in Edge Canary, would add the option as a top-level entry in the right-click menu, the same as Save and Print. The option is more intuitive and obvious than printing a web page as a PDF, the current implementation. The feature is being tested in Edge 95 Canary, but it appears to be available as a controlled roll-out and not available to everyone at present. via Techdows Microsoft is making it easier to save a web page as a PDF
  9. Microsoft Edge Canary build users were facing a serious inconvenience over the weekend. After the Edge was started, the browser started opening windows, seemingly at random. After 5 minutes or so, users will have 6-7 new Edge windows apart from the one they opened intentionally. Today, Microsoft released a new Edge Canary build to fix the issue. You can update to Edge version 1008 to fix this random window issue. Source: Microsoft Microsoft fixes the Edge canary build issue which opened new windows randomly
  10. Edge Canary has a new Windows 11 “visual update” flag Microsoft has added a new flag to Edge Canary aimed at adapting the design of the browser UI either to Windows 10 or Windows 11, depending on what you are running. The “Enable Windows 11 Visual Updates” flag claims to enable “in-progress visuals appropriate for your currently installed version of Windows.” When enabled, the flag appears to deliver the same change on both Windows 10 and Windows 11, mainly a change to the font style and size. An example of the change, which is present in most browser menus, can be seen above. There does not appear to be any other changes, though of course, this may change over time. 11. We reported last week that Microsoft was working on a new scrollbar for their Edge Canary browser. The new overlay scroll bar is narrower and auto-hiding, giving a very clean look to your browsing session. Earlier you needed a command-line switch to enable it. Now however Microsoft has added a flag, which should make it much easier to enable. To try it out enable the Windows Style overlay scrollbars flag in edge://flags. Microsoft has experimented earlier in the year with a new and improved scroll bar but then did not follow through. Hopefully, this version will actually ship to regular consumers in the end. via Leo Varela New rounded overlay scrollbar flag now available in Edge Canary.
  12. Google has been slowly edging towards it but today the company finally added a Save Tag Group command to the tab right-click menu on Chrome Canary. The feature needs to be enabled via the Tab Groups Save flag. It presents the feature is non-functional, but when enabled it will save the tab group to your bookmark bar. When you switch the toggle off the group will be removed from your bookmark bar. Tab Groups appear to be under active development at Google and Microsoft at present, so hopefully we will see the feature fully fleshed out in the near future. via techdows, Leo Varela Save Tab Group feature finally arrives on Chrome Canary
  13. Microsoft has updated the Immersive Reader in the latest Microsoft Edge Canary browser with new options. The Immersive reader now lets you choose from 3 different column widths, allowing you to customise the readers for whichever width is most comfortable for you. Another change new element in the latest Edge Canary is the addition of a Share option in the right-click menu on links, which lets you share a link you are clicking on, rather than the whole page itself. The improvements are available in Edge Canary, build 94.0.981.0. Source: Leo Varela. Microsoft Edge Immersive Reader updated with new options
  14. Earlier this month, an update for Chrome Canary introduced a new experimental flag called "Tab Groups Save". It allows users to save tab groups as favorites and quickly launch grouped pages with a single click. Now Microsoft is getting ready to borrow the same feature for its browser with additional improvements. Spotted by Leopeva64-2, the latest Edge Canary update introduced the ability to pin tab groups. This feature works like pinning tabs, so the browser can open the pinned group the next time you launch it. In addition to keeping the group on the tab strip, Microsoft Edge will "save" the group on the favorites bar, allowing you to restore the group with a single click. The same feature is available in Chrome, but due to its experimental nature and early implementation, Chrome does not preserve groups after shutdown. Microsoft appears to be A/B testing improved tab groups in Edge Canary, so only a subset of Edge Insiders can test group pinning. You can check whether your copy of Edge Canary has the feature by right-clicking any tab and selecting "Add page to a new group." After that, the browser should offer you to rename, assign a color, and pin the newly created group. Tab Groups in Google Chrome. Saved groups show up on the favorites bar. Better tab grouping is not the only experimental feature Microsoft prepares for the Edge browser. Users recently spotted in Edge Canary a new toggle for enabling or disabling Workspaces, which is similar to the tab groups feature. Microsoft is hosting a Windows 11-focused event next week, where we expect the company to reveal new features for its operating system and the Edge browser. Perhaps, some of these experimental features would show up during the presentation. Edge Canary now lets you save tab groups as bookmarks
  15. Microsoft is actively testing multiple ways to offer quick access to apps, tools, and web-based platforms in its Edge browser. As spotted by Redditor u/Leopeva64-2, the latest Canary build of the Chromium-based web browser now has a Microsoft Office button. It is not enabled by default, which suggests it is still quite experimental. Through this new control, Microsoft Edge could soon offer quick access to Microsoft Office apps or web-based platforms such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, and OneNote. The Microsoft Office button is disabled by default in the latest Canary build of Microsoft Edge but can be activated easily. It is available on the Appearance page. To access the same, fire up the latest experimental version of Edge and enter the following in the search bar: Edge://settings/appearance This page allows activating or deactivating the appearance of Internet Explorer mode, Web Capture, Share, Games, and other buttons that appear beside the address bar. The Microsoft Office toggle is available right above the Feedback button. Even if you don't enable it, Microsoft has still added Microsoft Office access to the ellipsis menu, as can be seen below. Toggling the Microsoft Office button adds a dedicated button to the toolbar. Clicking on it activates a sidebar that offers access to all the Microsoft Office platforms mentioned above. In its current iteration, clicking on any of the options leads to the web version of the Office platform. For example, clicking on the Excel option leads to Excel available at Office.com. As the feature is geared towards web-based apps or platforms, Microsoft could add more functions or links to other products in the future. According to the Redditor, the feature is part of a controlled rollout, which means that not every Canary user will receive it at the same time. Latest Microsoft Edge Canary build includes button for quick access to Office apps
  16. Here are the latest noteworthy changes in the Microsoft Edge browser from the Canary channel, where developers push early updates every day. The most recent update adds a new flag for managing experimental appearance settings, plus it brings improvements for built-in search engines. Flags are toggles you can turn on or off to modify, enable, or disable features that are not ready for the public. For example, blocking media autoplay on all websites in Edge requires switching on one of such experimental flags. Microsoft Edge 102, which is currently available for testing in the Canary channel, now comes with a new experimental flag called "Show experimental appearance settings." It lets you preview early appearance settings in the browser. Unfortunately, it appears that the new flag does not offer much, and no new settings pop in Edge after enabling it. The only new option in the appearance settings is the ability to let sidebar apps show notifications, but this toggle seems unrelated to experimental appearance settings managed by the flag. Another improvement in the latest Edge Canary version is a better "Manage search engines". Edge users now can remove default search engines from the browser. Google introduced this feature in Chrome 99, and it has now arrived in Edge 102. In case you missed it, here are other new features currently under testing in Edge Canary: The option to auto-save passwords without prompting the user The option to pause all extensions on all websites or automatically The option to save tab groups as bookmarks Link handling in progressive web apps If you want to try early changes in Microsoft Edge Canary, download the browser from the official Microsoft Edge Insider website. Keep in mind that Edge Canary may be more buggy than the public release, so it is better to use it side-by-side with the Stable version. Thank you, Leopeva64-2, for the tip! Edge Canary now allows enabling experimental appearance settings
  17. Microsoft Edge recently received a new button for enabling picture in picture (PiP) mode. The browser now places a compact button on top of any video, allowing users to turn on PiP without diving into the context menu. It is a nice change to improve feature discoverability, but not all users might like it. For those who would rather get rid of the button, Microsoft has some good news. The latest Microsoft Edge Canary adds the option to disable the picture in picture button. Open Microsoft Edge Canary, then go to edge://settings/content/PictureInPicture and turn off the "Show Picture in picture control inside video frame" toggle. Alternatively, you can open Settings and navigate to Cookies and site permissions > Picture in picture control. Note that disabling the PiP control does not prevent you from playing videos using picture in picture. On YouTube, for example, you need to right-click the now playing video two times and select "Picture in picture." Another new feature in Edge Canary is the ability to auto-save passwords without the browser asking you first. It is a welcome addition to ensure you never forget to save passwords. You can enable password auto-save by navigating to the edge://settings/password page and placing a checkmark next to the "Save passwords automatically" option. Finally, future Edge updates might let you customize additional toolbar parts. In addition to enabling or disabling the Home button, Edge Canary allows turning off the Forward button. Thank you, Leopeva64-2, for the tips! Edge Canary adds the option to auto-save passwords and disable picture-in-picture button
  18. The latest version of Microsoft Edge Canary brings improvements for managing extensions in the browser. Microsoft wants to give its users more flexibility by allowing them to pause and enable all extensions with a single click. This feature will come in handy when you visit a sensitive website and want to make sure no third-party extension can access the information. You can pause all extensions in Microsoft Edge Canary by opening the extension flyout. Click the button with three dots in the upper-right corner and select "Pause extensions on this site." After that, Microsoft Edge will place a big banner in the extension flyout with a message that the browser has suspended all extensions. You can restore extensions by pressing the "Resume extensions" button. Microsoft also added another way to prevent extensions from working on websites with sensitive information. Edge received a new setting that can detect a potentially sensitive page and shut down all extensions automatically. Microsoft says the new feature will work, for example, on banking and payment sites. The new privacy settings for extensions in Microsoft Edge are currently available to some insiders in the Canary channel as a part of A/B testing. Some users can access it right away, while others need to wait a few days or weeks for Microsoft to expand the testing scope. In case you missed it, Google also wants to help users ensure the extensions they use are safe and trustworthy. The company recently notified developers about the upcoming badges in the Chrome Web Store to mark developers and projects that follow the best safety, design, and UX standards. Thank you, Leopeva64-2, for the tip! Edge Canary now lets you pause all extensions on specific websites
  19. The latest version of Microsoft Edge Canary brings a new notable feature for progressive web apps. Users can enable a new experimental flag to let PWAs "handle" links. In other words, you can open links from other programs directly in related web apps instead of launching the browser. Here is an example of how this feature works: you receive a message in Telegram with a YouTube link. You click the link, and Windows opens it in the YouTube PWA instead of the browser. To enable link handling for progressive web apps, do the following: Update Microsoft Edge Canary to the latest version. You can download Edge Canary from the official Edge Insider website. Ensure Edge Canary is your default browser. If you use Windows 11 22H2, here is how to change the default browser with a single click. Install a web app, such as YouTube or Reddit, by clicking a button in the address bar. Go to edge://flags/#edge-webapp-link-handling and select Enabled. Restart the browser. Go to edge://apps, find the web app you need, and click Details. Turn on the Link handling toggle. Try opening a link that leads to the website installed as a web app. It is worth noting that the link handling feature has some quirks. For example, Edge Canary cannot open a shareable YouTube link (youtu.be) in a PWA but has no problem launching the web app with a regular youtube.com link. Also, the new flag does not affect how Edge works with websites installed as apps. There is a difference between fully-fledged progressive web apps (those Edge offers you to install from the address bar) and websites that simply open in dedicated windows. For now, Edge cannot open external links in websites installed as apps. Instead, the browser launches as usual and opens the link in a regular tab. Thank you, Leopeva64-2, for the tip! Edge Canary gets link handling for web apps
  20. Microsoft releases updates for Edge in the Canary channel every day with all sorts of changes: invisible under-the-hood optimizations, minor tweaks, noticeable UX enhancements, and significant new features. The latest release, 102.0.1212.0, improves the history page with new custom filtering controls. By default, Edge lets you filter the browser history by "Today," "Yesterday," "Last Week," and "Older." These four filters may not be enough to find a specific page you visited on some particular day. Although you can find history entries by word, the ability to specify the exact period is a welcomed UX improvement. Here is how this feature works. Update Microsoft Edge Canary to version 102.0.1212.0 or newer. Go to edge://history/all. Click Filter by date in the upper-right corner of the window. Select Date Range. Specify the dates and click Apply. You can select one day or several months. To clear history filters, press Filter by date > Clear Filter. Besides adding custom date ranges, Microsoft slightly changed the History page UI. Filtering options now sit in a menu in the upper-right corner. The upper-left corner of the browser now contains only the search box and three sections: All history, Recently closed, and Tabs from other devices. You can see in the images below how the new history page compares with the current one in the Stable channel. Of course, these are not the most groundbreaking changes in Edge, but such small improvements make the browser more convenient and robust in daily use. Fewer clicks to find the needed information and get things done is always a welcomed change. Other notable changes in the latest Canary updates include a potential return of the Workspaces feature and improved tab groups, which you might soon be able to pin and save as bookmarks. If you are curious to try new features in Edge Canary, download the browser here. The Canary channel is available on Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android. Source: Leopeva 64-2. Edge Canary gets improved history with custom date picker
  21. Google is working on an improved built-in screenshot editor for its Chrome browser. The latest update in the Canary channel brings a new flag for enabling new tools in the screenshot editor. The new editor lets you add and resize various shapes, such as circles, squares, arrows, and lines. There are also tools for thickness adjustment, brushes, smiles, and text with the options to customize color and styling. Microsoft Edge also has a screenshot editor (called "Web Capture"), but it offers only basic inking for freehand drawing. Last year, Google was experimenting with flags for the editor, but they started working only now (kind of). The editor is not ready for the prime-time—it crashes when invoked on our system, the toolbar disappears when you use it, and Chrome deletes screenshots upon page reload. You can try your luck with the screenshot editor in Chrome Canary by doing the following: Download the latest version of Chrome Canary (you can get it from the official website). Go to chrome://flags and enable the following flags: "Desktop Screenshots" and "Desktop Screenshots Edit Mode." Restart the browser. Open any webpage and click the Share button in the Omnibar. Select Screenshot. Take a screenshot and click Edit on the post-screenshot preview. Chrome will open a new tab with the editor. Do you think modern browsers should include screenshot editors, or are they unnecessary clutter developers should avoid? Source: Leopeva64-2 on Reddit Chrome Canary gets advanced screenshot editor
  22. Microsoft is testing a new sidebar for web apps that could appear in the stable version of the Edge browser. The latest Canary build of the Chromium-based web browser has the feature. It is not enabled by default, which means it is still quite experimental. Microsoft Edge has a section called “Experiments”, where it allows testers to access and activate features that might not be fully ready yet. Microsoft has added a flag for the “Web App Sidebar”. It is off by default, but the feature can be easily enabled for evaluation. The description confirms the new feature is being developed for all the major iterations of Microsoft Edge. In other words, Mac, Windows, and Linux users, who prefer to use Microsoft Edge, could receive the new Web App Sidebar in the near future. In its current iteration, the Sidebar appears to offer quick access to the Search function. As Reddit user Leopeva64-2 discovered, typing text into the Sidebar’s search grabs relevant web links. Incidentally, the feature does mention its primary function is to offer search results. Just like in Bing and Google Search, the Sidebar search function also supports auto-generated suggestions based on the text entered. As the feature is geared towards Web Apps, it is quite likely Microsoft could add more functions in the future. But the current iteration essentially mimics Bing. It offers users three tabs: All, Images, and Videos. There could be more options such as News, Shopping, and so on, hidden in the “Options” menu. Latest Microsoft Edge Canary build includes new “Web App Sidebar” for quick search
  23. The latest Microsoft Edge Canary build has received multiple features that further extend the Chromium-based browser’s ability to manage documents. The latest Canary build takes the browser’s version into the triple digits, and it comes with full-screen mode for PDF documents. Additionally, the browser can also hide all annotations within a document, as well as view its properties. Edge has long had the ability to open PDF files within the browser and perform other document-related functions. Clicking on a link pointing to a PDF file opens the file within a new tab. Navigating within a PDF file has always been easy due to the on-screen menu. Moving ahead, Microsoft is enabling the browser to be used as a presentation tool or just help in reading PDF documents without any distraction. Spotted by Reddit user Leopeva64-2, Microsoft Edge Canary v100 has a full-screen mode optimized for PDF files. The full-screen mode is often preferred for presentations. Selecting the mode ensures only the PDF document is visible on the entire screen; even the PDF reader toolbar is hidden. The full-screen mode is denoted by a diagonal bi-directional arrow. The icon is currently located within the PDF reader toolbar itself. The full-screen mode can even show multiple pages. In addition to the full-screen mode, Microsoft is also testing a new menu that includes options to hide annotations and to view document properties. All the features are currently available in the latest Edge Canary build. As Microsoft is executing a “controlled rollout”, some testers could receive these features before others. Latest Microsoft Edge Canary build v100 gets full-screen PDF reader, document properties
  24. Microsoft released a new development build of Microsoft Edge 100 to the Canary channel this week featuring primary password support and PDF thumbnail viewing. Microsoft Edge Canary is the main development build of the browser. It gets features first and interested users and developers may use the browser for testing purposes. The new update is already available. Canary users may need to select Menu > Help & Feedback > About Microsoft Edge to get it. The page that opens displays the current version and runs a check for updates. Loading edge://settings/help directly in the browser's address bar opens the same page. Edge Primary Password Microsoft Edge signs users in automatically on websites by default. Users of the browser could change the behavior in the past to block automatic autofilling. Up until now, users could switch the setting to "with device password", which would prompt for the device password before passwords were filled out by Edge automatically. Edge 100 introduces support for a primary password; this is a custom password that may be different from the device password. The primary password is saved locally only, and it needs to be entered to get the browser to fill out password fields on websites. Edge prompts for permission once per browsing session by default, but there is an option to make Edge prompt for permission each time a password can be filled automatically. Entering the primary password adds the data to the field. Not providing it or clicking on the close icon will abandon the operation. It is still possible to enter the username and password manually on the site then. The primary password feature of Edge works only with stored passwords. Edge users may disable the requirement to restore one of the two other options for filling out passwords in Edge. Other changes in Edge 100 Microsoft lists a large number of changes on its Tech Community website. Here is a short list of the most important ones: Option to view the thumbnails of the pages of PDF documents for navigation. Support for the textprediction attribute on forms in webpages. 25. Image credit: Leopeva64-2 (Reddit) Microsoft Edge Canary is where you get introduced to new features on an almost daily basis. As spotted by Reddit user Leopeva64-2, the company has recently added a new feature to the Canary channel, and it has one purpose: to make it easier for you to install web apps on all your devices. If you're using Edge Canary on more than one PC and are using the same Microsoft account on all your devices, you can switch between devices without having to go through the pain of installing all your important websites as web apps once again. All the websites that you installed as web apps will now appear on the Apps page of all your other devices. Once you switch to another device running the same version of Edge, it's really easy to install those web apps with just a single click. Image credit: Leopeva64-2 (Reddit) As you can see in the above screenshot, the previously-installed websites are now grayed out, ready to be installed on another computer. You can click on the 'Install' button that appears on the right side of each available app, and you'll get back all those web apps that you originally installed on a different computer. You can find the list of available apps on the Apps page under the 'Your available apps' section. As mentioned, the feature is available for Edge Canary users only. However, since it's a "controlled rollout", the feature is not available for all users on the Canary channel. Edge Canary makes it easier for you to install web apps across all your devices
