  1. For those looking forward to a new Windows Insider build today, Microsoft has confirmed it isn't happening as the company is busy "chasing down" a bug in the upcoming Dev Channel flight. Although the Windows Insider account confirmed it today, Jason Howard, who is on the Engineering Team at Microsoft, suggested yesterday that it wouldn't happen this week due to a pesky bug. We do wonder what kind of bug the developer team has caught as nothing more about it was said, maybe the resizeable Start menu that was accidentally shown off during the Microsoft Ignite event? Or something else. We might catch a hint next week when a new build drops. Microsoft confirms no Dev build this week as it is chasing down a blocking bug
  2. On Friday, June 28, Microsoft released new Windows Insider Program builds for Windows 11 in the Canary and Beta channels, along with a new Windows Server Insider build. Dev channel members did not get a new build but some new features were rolled out to members of that channel on Friday as well, although they were stopped on June 30 for unknown reasons. Because the updates were released on Friday at the end of the normal work week, we had questions about whether Microsoft planned to release new Insider builds this week. That's because the US celebrates July 4 as its Independence Day holiday, and we thought there was a good chance that the Windows Insider team would not be able to release build updates before taking the holiday off. Today, we posted a message on X to Brandon LeBlanc, the Senior Program Manager on the Windows Insider Team, asking him if there would be no new builds from the team this week. He replied with this: While that's not quite the definite answer we were hoping for, we would think that LeBlanc would know if a new Insider build would be in the works for a release this week. So, unless a huge surprise pops up before the end of the day on Friday, July 5, members of the Windows Insider Program should not expect any new versions to download. Next week, we should not only get some new builds, but it's also going to be Patch Tuesday on July 9, which means all Windows 10 and 11 users will be getting official updates with security patches and updates for their PCs. 3. Barring a very, very last-minute and unprecedented release later on Friday, it's looking like Microsoft will not be releasing any new Windows 11 or 10 builds for members of the Windows Insider Program. This will mark the second straight week without such a release. The last such release of any Windows Insider build was on August 30, when Microsoft released the 22635.4145 build for Windows 11 for the Beta channel and a new 27695 build for the Canary Channel. Microsoft updated the blog posts for both the Beta and Canary channels on September 3 to show some new features that were not previously discovered, but the build downloads did not change. If you are a member of the Windows 11 Insider Dev Channel, you have been waiting nearly a month for a new build. The last Dev Channel release, for build 26120.1542, was released on August 19. We have attempted to message the Windows Insider Program on their X account to find out why there's been a significant break in new Insider builds, but there's been no response yet. We will update this post if and when this happens. It has not been a completely barren release schedule for Windows Insider members. On September 6, Microsoft updated the Microsoft Photos app for all Windows 10 and 11 Insider members, adding a number of new features and improvements. Even members of the Windows Server Insider Program got a new release this week. Build 26280 was sent out to members of that program on September 6. Meanwhile, regular Windows 10 and 11 users got the latest public versions of those operating systems as part of the monthly Patch Tuesday event. That included users of Windows 10 21H2 and 22H2, along with Windows 11 21H2, 22H2, and 23H2. Owners of Copilot+ PCs got their own Patch Tuesday update this week for Windows 11 24H2. 4. Microsoft released the first Windows 11 Insider builds of 2023 today on both Dev (build 25272) as well as Beta channels (build 2262x.1095). Outside of the many bug fixes it brings, the former also has a hidden feature in it, a new option in the File Explorer navigation pane dubbed "Gallery" and it also has a new icon. The change was spotted by Windows enthusiast and detective PhantomOcean3. At the moment it is not clear why Microsoft added the new icon and option since it is basically doing the same thing that "Pictures" does. However, it is possible that there are more changes in store for later. To enable the Gallery in the new build 25272, follow the steps below: Caution: Unannounced features are often raw, unstable, or borderline unusable. Back up important data before using the ViveTool app and enabling hidden options. Remember that using stable Windows 11 is the best way to ensure your system remains as bug-free as possible. Download ViveTool from GitHub and unpack the files somewhere convenient. Press Win + X and select Terminal (Admin). Switch Windows Terminal to Command Prompt profile by pressing Ctrl + Shift + 2 or clicking the arrow-down button at the top of the window. Navigate to the folder containing the extracted files using the CD command. For example, if you have extracted ViveTool to C:\Vive, type CD C:\Vive. Type vivetool /enable /id:41040327 and press Enter. (For PowerShell try: .\vivetool /enable /id:41040327) Restart your computer. If you change your mind and want to go back, repeat the steps above and replace enable with disable in the commands on steps 4 / 5. New Windows 11 feature "Gallery" has been spotted in latest Dev build
