  1. Following the release of Microsoft Edge 136 at the beginning of May, Microsoft dropped another Edge update for customers in the Stable Channel. Version 136.0.3240.64 is now available for all to download, and it features two changes: fixes for Microsoft Editor and security patches. Microsoft Edge, currently the second most popular desktop browser, has a custom spellchecker called Microsoft Editor, which watches over your writing. In addition to basic typos and misspelled words, Microsoft Editor can highlight grammar mistakes and offer various suggestions to improve your writing. However, after the recent updates, Microsoft Editor stopped working, and now, Microsoft is fixing that with version 136.0.3240.64: Note that Microsoft Editor sends the data you type to Microsoft's servers for processing and spellchecking. Also, this feature is enabled by default. If you are not okay with that due to privacy concerns or other reasons, you can switch to basic spellchecking or turn it off for good. To do so, head to Settings > Languages > Writing Assistance > Enable grammar and spellcheck assistance. Additional changes in Microsoft Edge 136.0.3240.64 update include a fix for CVE-2025-4372, a Chromium security vulnerability: CVE-2025-4372: Use after free in WebAudio in Google Chrome prior to 136.0.7103.92 allowed a remote attacker to potentially exploit heap corruption via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: Medium) You can update Microsoft Edge to the latest version by heading to edge://settings/help. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. 2. Microsoft Edge 134 has been updated to a new version in the Stable Channel. Not much is present in version 134.0.3124.83 apart from fixes for recent time zone changes and patches for security vulnerabilities. Here is the changelog: As for security patches, the latest update packs important Chromium fixes. The patched vulnerabilities have been reported to be exploited in the wild (one is flagged as critical), so users are urged to update their browsers as soon as possible: You can update Microsoft Edge to the latest version by heading to edge://settings/help. You can also continue using the browser as is, and it will update itself in the background. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. 4. Microsoft Edge 132 has arrived in the Stable Channel for all users on Windows, Mac, and Linux. The latest feature update delivers a long list of various changes, including updates to shopping tracking, management improvements, one deprecated page, policy changes, and a lot of security fixes. As usual, the release also contains many bug fixes and small enhancements. Here is the list of feature updates: If you want to learn more information about fixed bugs in Microsoft Edge 132, you can check out detailed release notes for each Edge 132 Dev update that are included in today's release: Dev Channel update to 132.0.2917.0 Dev Channel update to 132.0.2931.1 Dev Channel update to 132.0.2945.0 Dev Channel update to 132.0.2957.11 As for security fixes, Edge 132 contains two Edge-specific fixes, namely CVE-2025-21399 and CVE-2025-21185, two vulnerabilities that allow privilege escalation. 5. Microsoft Edge has received a small but important update in the Stable Channel. Version 131.0.2903.63 is now available for download with fixes for the "Delete browsing data" dialog not closing when clearing data and some patches for three security vulnerabilities. Here is the changelog: Security patches in Microsoft Edge 131.0.2903.63 include one Edge-specific patch and two originating from Chromium: CVE-2024-49025 (Microsoft Edge-specific): Information Disclosure Vulnerability (moderate severity) that involves sending the target a specially crafted file and convincing it to open the file or visit the website containing the file. CVE-2024-11395 (Chromium): Type Confusion in V8 in Google Chrome prior to 131.0.6778.85 allowed a remote attacker to potentially exploit heap corruption via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: High) CVE-2024-49054 (Chromium): Spoofing vulnerability. An attacker could create a long URL for a download domain so that when Edge displays the entire URL, the main part of the domain gets cut off. You can update Microsoft Edge to the latest version by heading to edge://settings/help or Menu > Help and Feedback > About Microsoft Edge. In other Microsoft Edge news, a recent Chromium update broke text selection on many popular websites, forcing web developers to implement an emergency CSS fix in their website code. 7. Microsoft Edge 130, the latest Stable release publicly available, has received a small update to version 130.0.2849.56. The release packs two important changes: fixes for some non-working browser extensions and security fixes. Therefore, if some of your extensions are not working properly, download the latest Edge update. According to the official release notes for Microsoft Edge 130.0.2849.56, the update fixes a problem that prevented extensions with certain APIs from working correctly. The API in question is chrome.storage.managed, which is a part of a broader chrome.storage API that provides a specific way for an extension to store user data and its state. The chrome.storage.managed is responsible for extensions installed and managed by system administrators on managed devices. Therefore, regular users are unlikely to experience extension issues due to this bug. As for security fixes, Microsoft Edge 130.0.2849.56 packs the following Chromium patches: CVE-2024-10229: Inappropriate implementation in Extensions in Google Chrome prior to 130.0.6723.69 allowed a remote attacker to bypass site isolation via a crafted Chrome Extension. (Chromium security severity: High) CVE-2024-10230: Type Confusion in V8 in Google Chrome prior to 130.0.6723.69 allowed a remote attacker to potentially exploit heap corruption via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: High) CVE-2024-10231: Type Confusion in V8 in Google Chrome prior to 130.0.6723.69 allowed a remote attacker to potentially exploit heap corruption via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: High) You can update Microsoft Edge to the latest version by heading to edge://settings/help. Alternatively, you can continue using Edge as is, and it will update itself automatically in the background. Full release notes are available here. In other news, in case you missed it, Microsoft recently announced new accessibility features for Microsoft Edge, which include custom page backgrounds and the ability to turn off custom scroll bars. You can learn more about those changes here. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. 8. Microsoft has released Edge 130 in the Stable Channel. The browser's latest feature update is full of small improvements and fixes, plus some more notable changes, such as an improved Settings navigation. The latter now features quick access to the most popular settings, common actions on "densely populated" pages, and tables of contents (Settings updates are rolling out gradually). Here is the changelog with feature updates: Fixes in Microsoft Edge 130 include the following: In addition, the update contains all the small improvements and changes Microsoft introduced in the Dev Channel for version 130: Dev Channel update to 130.0.2808.0 Dev Channel update to 130.0.2821.1 Dev Channel update to 130.0.2835.2 Dev Channel update to 130.0.2849.1 Microsoft Edge 130 also includes some site compatibility changes, such as support for non-special scheme URLs (git://example.com), keyboard-focusable scroll containers, and compression dictionary transport with shared Brotli and shared Zstandard. More information about those changes is available here. You can update Microsoft Edge to the latest version by heading to Menu > Help and Feedback > About Microsoft Edge or edge://settings/help. 9. Edge 121 is now available for download in the Stable Channel. The latest feature update for Microsoft's browser adds the long-expected AVIF and AV1 support, the ability to grow an e-tree in Wallet (Microsoft says that results in someone planting real trees), security fixes, and several enterprise-related changes. What is new in Microsoft Edge 121? Here is the official changelog: Microsoft Edge 121 also contains six browser-specific security updates. You can find more information about the in the official "Security updates" documentation. Microsoft Edge will update itself automatically upon the next restart. However, you can force-install the latest release by opening edge://settings/help. The desktop version of the browser is available on Windows 10, 11, macOS, and Linux. Source
  10. On January 3, 2024, Microsoft released a new Windows 11 preview build in the Dev Channel, bringing Windows Insiders a new lock screen widget to try. After a very brief period of testing, the new weather widget is now available for all users in the Stable Channel. Microsoft is rolling out the redesigned weather experience on the lock screen as a part of this month's cumulative updates (KB5034123 released on January 9, 2023). This is a gradual rollout, which means some users will get the new widget later than others. Microsoft says the new experience will be available for all in the coming weeks. Microsoft introduced weather on the lock screen almost twelve years ago when it launched Windows 8. The new version released earlier this month displays more information with richer visuals, plus it lets you click the widget to get more weather data in Microsoft Edge (even if you have the Weather app installed). According to Microsoft, the widget works with all lock screen backgrounds, such as Windows Spotlight, a single picture, or a slideshow. You can force-enable the new weather widget using the ViVeTool app: Download ViveTool from GitHub and unpack the files in a convenient and easy-to-find folder. Press Win + X and select Terminal (Admin). Switch Windows Terminal to the Command Prompt profile with the Ctrl + Shift + 2 shortcut or by clicking the arrow-down button at the top of the window. Navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files with the CD command. For example, if you have placed ViveTool in C:\Vive, type CD C:\Vive. Type vivetool /enable /id:47526873 /variant:1 /variantpayloadkind:1 /variantpayload:1 and press Enter (credit for the ID goes to @PhantomOfEarth) Restart your computer. Interestingly, Windows 10 will soon get the same feature. The release notes for the latest Release Preview update mention the redesigned weather experience, albeit without specific details. That, in addition to Copilot, is a part of Microsoft's recent strategy shift to continue adding new capabilities to the outgoing operating system. Source
  11. Microsoft has released Edge 122 for download on the Stable Channel. The latest feature update for Microsoft's PC web browser rebrands its Web Capture feature to Screenshot, along with a new logo for that feature and more. What is new in Microsoft Edge 122? Check out the official changelog for the new Stable version of Edge 122: You can learn more about the rebranded Screenshot feature in Edge at this Microsoft support site. Edge 122 Stable has the following policy updates: The new Edge 122 Stable version also "Fixed various bugs and performance issues" according to the support post. Microsoft Edge will update itself automatically upon the next restart. However, you can force-install the latest release by opening edge://settings/help. The desktop version of the browser is available on Windows 10, 11, macOS, and Linux. Source
  12. Microsoft is rolling out a new Edge update for version 123 in the Stable Channel. 123.0.2420.81 does not bring new features or notable changes. Instead, it fixes five security vulnerabilities within the browser. Three are the latest Chromium security patches, and the other two are Microsoft Edge-specific. The update is also available for users in the Extended Stable Release Channel. They received version 122.0.2365.120 with the same security patches. CVE-2024-29981 is a spoofing vulnerability (marked as low severity) that requires local access to the target device or opening a specifically crafted file. CVE-2024-29049 is a WebView2 spoofing vulnerability of high complexity and moderate severity. According to Microsoft, exploiting it requires an attacker to take additional actions prior to exploitation to prepare the target environment. Although the vulnerability is within the web server, malicious code runs on a victim's local machine. CVE-2024-29049 also requires opening an infected file. The latest Chromium patches contain fixes for three vulnerabilities: Chromium: CVE-2024-3156 Inappropriate implementation in V8 Chromium: CVE-2024-3158 Use after free in Bookmarks Chromium: CVE-2024-3159 Out of bounds memory access in V8 Microsoft Edge will download available updates in the background as you use the browser and install the latest version upon the next restart. You can always force-update the browser by heading to edge://settings/help. In case you missed it, Microsoft recently released the first build of Edge 125 in the Dev Channel. Version 124 is currently being tested in the Beta Channel, with the Stable release scheduled for the week of April 18, 2024. Source
  13. Microsoft recently re-released Edge 123 in the Stable Channel. The company pulled the update earlier to resolve compatibility issues with certain enterprise configurations. Now, the update is back with the necessary fix and four zero-day vulnerability fixes that, according to Microsoft, are exploited in the wild. Here is the official changelog: Security patches are available in version 123 in the Stable Channel and version 122 in the Extended Stable Channel. Patched vulnerabilities include CVE-2024-2887 "Type Confusion in WebAssembly," CVE-2024-2886 "Use after free in WebCodecs," CVE-2024-2885 "Use after free in Dawn," and CVE-2024-2883 "Use after free in ANGLE." You can update Microsoft Edge by heading to edge://settings/help. Since the patched vulnerabilities are actively exploited, everyone better hurry up and get to version 123.0.2420.65. An offline installer can be found on the official website. The update will also install an 8KB "Microsoft Copilot" app, which, according to Microsoft, is related to the upcoming Copilot features. They will let you ask Copilot to tweak settings, get device info, launch accessibility features, and more. Those features are currently available only to Windows Insiders with preview builds, and why Microsoft released that small app to users in the Stable Channel remains unknown. More information about the latest Microsoft Edge update is available here. Security notes have a separate page in the official documentation. Source
  14. Microsoft Edge 123 is now available in the Stable Channel. The latest feature update delivers bug fixes, performance improvements, and security patches. In addition, Edge 123 contains two new features for businesses and a plethora of new policies. Here are the details. What is new in Microsoft Edge 123? The official release notes for Microsoft Edge 123 do not list every bug fix and improvement. However, you can find more details in the changelogs for each Edge Dev 123 release: Microsoft Edge Dev 123.0.2380.1 Microsoft Edge Dev 123.0.2400.1 Microsoft Edge Dev 123.0.2420.6 Edge 123 also includes Chromium security updates and two Edge-specific patches (CVE-2024-26247 and CVE-2023-29057). Here are the new features: You can update Microsoft Edge to the latest version by heading to edge://settings/help. Alternatively, keep using it as usual, and the browser will update itself automatically upon the next restart. Source
  15. The Microsoft Edge 124 version of the web browser is now available in the Stable Channel. The update includes some unnamed bug fixes along with unrevealed performance improvements and better reliability. It has some security patches specifically for Edge which are listed below: It also has some other security updates from the Chromium project. Edge 124 also has quite a few new features for business users, along with three new policies. Here is the change log You can update Microsoft Edge to the latest 124 version by heading to edge://settings/help. Alternatively, keep using it as usual, and the browser will update itself automatically upon the next restart. Source
  16. Microsoft Edge version 124.0.2478.80 is now available for download in the Stable Channel. The update is rather minor, so do not expect to see much in the changelog. The latest release adds an internet speed test to the built-in sidebar toolbox and fixes two security vulnerabilities. Edge's built-in speed test tool now sits at the top of the default "Tools" sidebar app, which also includes additional convenient utilities, such as world clock, calculator, translator, unit converter, and more. However, clicking "start" opens a new Microsoft Bing tab with its speed tester instead of running it inside the sidebar. The whole idea of having the sidebar is so that you can use apps and tools without switching from your current tab, so it is a bit odd to see this behavior. Here is the changelog for version 124.0.2478.80: As for security updates, version 124.0.2478.80 patches two Chromium security vulnerabilities of high severity: Microsoft Edge updates itself automatically in the background. However, you can force the browser to get to the latest update by heading to edge://settings/help. In other news, Microsoft recently announced new memory controls for the Edge browser. They are now available in Microsoft Edge 125 Beta, which was released for public testing this week. Those controls allow you to specify how much RAM Edge can use while you are gaming or doing other tasks. Source
  17. Microsoft has released the latest version of its Edge web browser to the Stable Channel. The version number is 120.0.2210.61. This is a pretty minor release with a couple of admin-based features, some new policies, and some bug and security fixes. Here is the changelog: You can view the support post for the update here. Microsoft has also released the specific security updates for Edge 120 Stable as well, which incorporates the latest updates from the Chromium project. There are also three specific Edge security fixes: You can download the Edge 120 Stable update from Microsoft's site. The company is already working on Edge 121. You can download the Dev version of that browser right now, which has some new additions such as offering video translation and captions on the page, an image viewer with basic editing and AI features, and many more. 19. Microsoft is rolling out the latest feature update for its browser. Version 117 is now available in the Stable Channel, bringing customers new features and experiences, such as Microsoft Edge for Business for unmanaged devices, a new feature for favorites recovery, autofill enhancements, and more. In addition, Edge 117 deprecates several tools to simplify the browser. With the latest update, Math Solver, Picture Dictionary, Citations, Grammar Tools, and Kids Mode are no longer in active development. Although they are still available, Microsoft may remove the deprecated features in future updates. What is new in Microsoft Edge 117? Requires Microsoft Intune 2309 or higher App Protection Conditional Access is in Public Preview. If you have a Conditional Access (CA) policy on your tenant that targets "All cloud apps" that covers "Mobile apps and desktop clients" and requires a compliant device, app protection policies or has a "Block" grant control, your end users will not be able to MAM enroll. A change to support this is targeted for Microsoft Edge v118. If you want to continue testing/evaluating APP CA, you can choose to exclude the "Edge Auth" application from your cloud app targeting. Some Microsoft Edge features might not function properly until CA is satisfied, but MAM enrollment will be able to complete. Feature updates: Microsoft Edge for Business Banner. Administrators can control the availability of the in-product Microsoft Edge for Business banner using the PromotionalTabsEnabled policy. Microsoft Edge Sync Favorites Recovery. The Microsoft Edge Sync Favorites Recovery feature lets sync users restore any favorites that they lost or deleted within the last 14 days. Autofill options can be found in Settings (edge://settings/personalinfo). Deprecation of Web Select. To improve end user experience, this feature is being deprecated and will no longer be an option under Web Capture or via keyboard shortcut. Deprecation of features. 22. Microsoft started testing a native VPN for the Edge browser about a year ago. Dubbed "Edge Secure Network," the service provides 1GB of free data to improve privacy or circumvent regional restrictions on various websites. Although we are still waiting for Microsoft to launch Edge's built-in VPN, some users report seeing the feature in the stable version of the browser and without the "Preview" tag. Previously, Edge Secured Network was available only to Edge Insiders. Unlike traditional VPN services, Edge Secured Network does not allow picking a server in a specific country or location. However, you have three modes to customize the experience for your needs: Select Sites - Edge uses the VPN only on websites specified in the "Use VPN" list. For example, if you need a VPN only to access one or two region-restricted websites. Optimized - Rerouts all traffic through the VPN whenever you connect to a public or unsecured network or a website without a valid certificate. This mode also routes videos outside the VPN to conserve the data (1GB/mo is the default free limit). All Sites - Built-in VPN is always on. Microsoft allows select Edge insiders to test up to 15GB of free monthly traffic, but the limit should return to 1GB once the feature is available to all users. Those needing more data will get the option to purchase extra traffic. Pricing, unfortunately, remains unknown. Considering the VPN is about to launch, expect Microsoft to announce pricing and availability soon. Would you use a native VPN in Microsoft Edge? Let us know in the comments. 23. A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft added a new flag responsible for enabling the Split Screen feature in Edge Canary. Split Screen lets you use two tabs side-by-side in a single Microsoft Edge window, and it is a part of the upcoming Edge "Phoenix" project that aims to rejuvenate Microsoft's browser. After a brief testing period and without many changes, Split Screen has arrived in the stable channel. You can enable Split Screen in Microsoft Edge 110.0.1587.46 and newer. Although the feature is available for use, it still requires turning on an experimental flag. Therefore, expect to spot rough surfaces or bugs before Microsoft enables Split Screen by default. For example, clicking the Split Screen button on the toolbar leaves the tab in focus open and closes the other. Another bug is that the browser does not retain tab pairs when you close it. According to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, Split Screen in Edge should hit general availability (GA) in April 2023, so the company still has time to polish the feature and iron out bugs. How to enable Split Screen in Microsoft Edge Stable? Update the browser to the latest version by navigating to edge://settings/help. Open edge://flags and search for the Microsoft Edge Split Screen flag. Set the flag to Enabled. Restart the browser. Click the Split Screen button on the toolbar and select the tabs you want to keep side-by-side. You can also launch Edge Split Screen by right-clicking a link and selecting Open link in split window. Split Screen is not the only major change in Microsoft Edge. The company plans to give its browser a rounded corners treatment, which has already sparked some heat among Edge users. Those not fond of the idea can learn how to disable rounded corners in Edge in our dedicated guide. Microsoft brings Split Screen to all Edge users in the Stable channel
  24. Finally, Microsoft has released Edge browser version 104 in the Stable channel, and the rollout brings the general public two major features: better security and easier transfer of Chrome data to Edge. Despite the recent news about the increased desktop market share of Microsoft Edge, it is undeniable that the browser is still far from catching up with Google Chrome. With this, Microsoft keeps introducing new Edge updates in hopes of luring users to its browser. One of those features is Microsoft Edge’s First Run Experience. What’s special about this new feature being introduced by Microsoft in Edge is that it will allow you to log in to your Google account without installing Google Chrome on your PC. This means you can migrate your Chrome data with less fuss and process in case you want to go full Edge. When you launch Edge, this update will ask you whether you want to log into your Google account or not. Doing so will allow Edge to retrieve your Chrome browsing data synced to the cloud. On the other hand, if you want to turn off the feature, Microsoft said that you could simply disable it through the HideFirstRunExperience policy or the ‘DisabledAutoImport’ option in AutoImportAtFirstRun. Another feature included in the Edge version 104 is the new default security option called “Basic Mode,” which will now be the default for the Enhance your security on the web setting. This will join Edge’s current Balanced and Strict level options by applying “added security protection to the less visited sites” while preserving a satisfying user experience when using popular websites. “Basic mode is a static mode that only applies these security mitigations to less visited sites,” Microsoft explains. “This mode doesn’t take a user’s behavior into account and only enables the feature on less visited sites.” Latest Edge update offers easier Chrome data import, new ‘Basic’ option for enhanced web security Frontpaged: Microsoft Edge 104.0.1293.47
