  1. Mozilla has been working on integrating tab groups in Firefox for quite some time. The organization confirmed in May that it was working on a set of features that would allow Firefox users to use features that other browsers, including Google Chrome, offered already. Good to know: Firefox Stable users may enable tab groups in the browser already. The feature is disabled by default, but it can be activated in less than a minute and with minimal effort. This guide explains how that is done further down below. Firefox Tab Groups Features Firefox Nightly users were the first to test the new tab groups feature. It works similarly to that of Chromium-based browsers. You can create new tab groups and place website tabs inside. You may name each tab group and assign a color to it for improved identification. A double-click expands or collapses the entire group. Tab groups furthermore carry over between sessions, if you select to reload the last session on start of the browser. How to enable Tab Groups in Firefox Note: you need to use Firefox 133 or newer, as Tab Groups were introduced in that version of the browser. Select Menu > Help > About Firefox to update the browser to the latest version. Here is the step-by-step guide to enable Tab Groups in Mozilla's browser: Load about:config in the Firefox address bar and press the Enter-key. Confirm that you will be careful if the warning page is displayed. Type tabs.group in the search field on the page that opens. Activate the toggle button at the far right of the preference browser.tabs.groups.enabled to switch the value to true. Restart Firefox. Working with Tab Groups in Firefox How to create a new tab group? To create a new tab group in Firefox, right-click on a tab and select Add tab to group > New group. How to add websites to an existing tab group? Right-click on the tab and select Add tab to group > Name of existing group. Alternative: drag & drop the website on an existing tab group. How to create a new tab in a tab group? Right-click on a tab in the tab group and select New tab to right. How to remove a website from a tab group? Right-click on the tab and select Remove from group. Alternative: drag & drop the website from the tab group to a location outside of it. Closing Words Mozilla is not ready to roll out tab groups to the entire stable population at this point. It might not take that long before the rollout begins though, as the feature looks complete, even in the stable version. The new feature should give Firefox users a productivity boost and close the feature-gap with Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers. Do you use Firefox? Did you miss tab groups until now? Is it a feature that you use in other browsers? Feel free to leave a comment down below. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. 2. Want to create tab group in Edge easier? Well, we’ve got some good news for you. Microsoft Edge’s engineers are always working rigorously to bring new features and improvements to the browser. And, as recently unearthed by an insider, they’re reportedly working to bring a brand-new dropdown menu next to the New Tab button. As spotted by Edge insider @Leopeva64, the Redmond-based tech giant is testing this feature in Canary, the experimental channel of the browser. There are a few options you can choose, including creating a new group or access the History hub, but more could be announced soon. A short while back, the insider also said that there’s a niceenhancement in store for another convenient feature called Quick actions in Edge’s sidebar. Although it was first noticed last year that you could control YouTube video playback (play/pause) by hovering over it, this quick access functionality has now been introduced to other sidebar applications like Word (for crafting a new document) and Outlook (for composing a new email). 3. Many desktop web browsers and some mobile browsers support the grouping of tabs. Implementations may differ depending on the browser and platform, but all have in common that they provide users with an option to group tabs in the browser. Many Chromium-based browsers support tab groups by now. You can use Microsoft Edge, Brave or Google Chrome, and use the functionality right away. All that it takes is to right-click on a tab and select the "add tab to new group" option from the context menu. Add a custom string to describe the group, pick a color and you are all set to start using it. New tabs are added via drag & drop, and once the tab bar reaches a certain threshold, you may click on the name of the tab group to minimize it. Some Chromium-based browsers have created different solutions. The Vivaldi browser supports a range of tab group related options. Unlike other Chromium-based browsers, Vivaldi users may create tab groups by dragging tabs on top of each other. It is simpler, and the browser comes with options to display tabs of groups in a second tab bar in the interface for improved usability. Mozilla's Firefox web browser supported tab groups for some time several years ago. Mozilla made the decision to remove tab grouping functionality from Firefox. Firefox users may install add-ons, such as Tiled Tab Groups, Panorama Tab Groups, or Simple Tab Groups, that restore the functionality. Why I like Tab Groups When I use a web browser, I tend to have a good amount of tabs open at all times. It happens that I find sites and pages of interest during browsing and research sessions, and I tend to open these in new tabs in the browser and keep these tabs open between sessions. While I could save the tabs to the browser's bookmarks or use other archiving options, I found that I forget about these then quickly as they are not visible anymore on the screen. The number of tabs reaches dangerous threshold levels sometimes, so that open tabs are displayed with just a site icon or no icon at all anymore. The introduction of tab group support in the browser allows me to sort open tabs into multiple groups and to collapse groups that are needed. One group has all the Ghacks research articles that I came across; these consist of new programs that I want to test, articles from other websites, research papers, tips, and anything else that could make an article on the site or be used in one. Then I have groups for other activities, including entertainment and hobbies, or informational articles on topics of interest that are unrelated to my day job. Tab groups help me focus, as they hide open tabs that I don't need access to at the time. What is still missing Tab groups improve how I work significantly. The implementation in Chrome, Edge and most Chromium-based browsers lacks one option, which I would like to see introduced in the future. If a tab group is collapsed, it is not possible to use drag and drop to add a new open tab to it. I have to expand the group to drop another tab into it. Vivaldi does this better, and it is having the superior tab grouping system in my opinion. Closing Words Tab groups are not for all users. If you have one or two tabs open at a time, then you don't need to use tab groups. If you have several dozen or even hundreds of tabs open, you may want to check out the feature to better organize tabs and improve workflows in the process. Now You: do you use tab groups? Opinion: I love the tab grouping feature of web browsers
  4. Tab Groups now enabled by default in Edge Dev builds After years of development, Microsoft is finally preparing to bring Tab Groups to Edge users. The feature has been available behind flags on Edge for a while, but the company is finally enabling the feature by default in Edge Canary and Edge Dev, suggesting it should reach the stable builds in a few weeks. Tab Groups is likely the best browser UI innovation in the last few years, allowing you to group related sites together under a single labelled tab, which can then be collapsed to save space in your browser tab row. On Edge, the feature is supported for both vertical and horizontal tabs. Try it out now in the Dev and Canary builds by right-clicking on a tab and selecting Add to Group. via Techdows Tab Groups now enabled by default in Edge Dev builds
  5. Google is added submenus for Tab Groups in the Chrome History menu Tab groups is one of Chrome’s greatest UI innovations, but the company has been moving rather slowly on rounding out the needed feature set for the feature. The latest feature the company is working on is saving the names and organization of your closed tabs, allowing you to easily find and re-open individual and whole tab groups you have closed earlier. This feature is available in Chrome Canary under the Show app menu history sub menus flag. Google is also working on another new feature, as revealed on the Chromium Gerrit. The feature lets you save your tab groups when you Bookmark all tabs: Add folders for Tab groups on Bookmark All Tabs. When the user has one or more Tab groups open and selects “Bookmark All Tabs”, instead of getting a folder with a flat list of tabs, they will now see nested folders for any Tab groups, with naming aligned with the Tab group title. The order of URLs and nested folders will match the tabstrip order. If multiple Tab groups share the same title, their tabs will get combined into a single folder at the index of the first group. All these features are of course sensible and pretty basic, and I do wonder why Google did not debut with all these features at launch. How to use Safari Tab Groups

If you’re a Safari user, Tab Groups can help you keep your life organized and your desktop clean. If you’re using Safari but you’re not using Tab Groups, well, it’s time to change that. Tab Groups, as the name implies, allows you to group a selection of tabs together and essentially set them aside for future use. For example, if you have a bunch of tabs you use for work and a bunch of tabs you use after work, you can cordon these tabs off into batches so that they don’t get in each other’s way. You can use your work tabs at work and, when you’re finished, swap them for your “after work” tabs with just one click. You might also have different Tab Groups for different assignments at work or different school projects. Folks who share a computer might have different Tab Groups for each user. The possibilities are endless. Here’s how to create a tab group in Safari. How to create Safari Tab Groups on macOS There are a couple of ways to do this. The easiest method is to make a group out of whatever tabs you currently have open. If you’re about to close Safari but think you might need to pick up where you left off when you open it later, throwing your tabs into a group can give you some peace of mind. You can also create a tab group from scratch if there is a batch of tabs you think you might want to use later. This is a bit more time-consuming but will allow you to be more selective about which tabs to include. To create a tab group from existing tabs In Safari, click the down arrow in the toolbar. (It’s on the left side, next to the button that opens the sidebar.) Pick New Tab Group With [X] Tabs. In the left column, look for the Tab Group subhead. Name your tab group, then press Enter. To create a tab group from scratch Click the down arrow in the toolbar. (It’s next to the button that opens the sidebar.) Pick New Empty Tab Group. Name your tab group, then press enter. Right-click a tab you want to add to the group, click Move to Tab Group, and select the tab group you want. Alternatively, you can click and drag the tab to your group on the left side. To open your new tab group Click on that down arrow again. Click on the tab group you want. Once you’ve got a group up and running, it’s not set in stone. You can adjust the makeup of a given tab group by clicking the arrow to its right in the sidebar’s tab group list. Right-click any tab that comes up, and you’ll have the option to remove it from the group, remove all tabs that aren’t it from the group, or move it to a different group, You can also click the three dots just next to the arrow if you want to rename, delete, or share the group, along with other options. How to create Safari Tab Groups on iOS Tab Groups can sync between iOS and macOS devices, so if you create one on your Mac computer, you can still access it on your iPhone. Nevertheless, if it’s more convenient for you to create these from the Safari app on iOS, you can certainly do so. In the Safari app, click the tabs button on the bottom right. (It’s the one with two squares.) Press and hold a tab you want to add, then pick Move to Tab Group. Select New Tab Group. Name your new group. Source
